The British science journal Nature confirmed yesterday that Snuppy, right, cloned by Hwang Woo-suk and his research team at Seoul National University, was indeed the world’s first cloned dog. Papers by American and Korean scientists cited DNA testing that showed the dog was cloned from a somatic cell of Tai, the Afghan hound at left. The journal published a report on the cloning last August, but tested further after Dr. Hwang’s other work came under suspicion. A university investigation earlier confirmed that Snuppy was, indeed, a clone.
