Hwang Woo-suk attended Seoul National University’s disciplinary committee for the first time yesterday and admitted responsibility for the fabrication of data for stem cell cloning papers published in the U.S. journal Science in 2004 and 2005.
The committee said Dr. Hwang apologized for disgracing the university. “I did not follow the procedures that a scientist should follow and I was driven by greed,” Dr. Hwang said.
Meanwhile, the Seoul Central Prosecutors’ Office summoned Park Ky-young, a professsor at Sunchon University and the former presidential adviser for science and technology, for questioning yesterday.
Prosecutors asked her about when she discovered the papers had been fabricated and whether she reported it to the Blue House. They quizzed her about being added as an author of the 2004 paper despite her lack of research work, and why she got 250 million won ($257,000) from Dr. Hwang.
