Just when I was beginning to think Korea is going overboard for taking drastic measures to curb malicious acts on the Internet, my friend informed me of a bill that the conservative party in Indonesia is trying to pass. According to the new law, pornography would be “an act that incites sexual desire.”
Definition of emotion is such a hard thing, as told in Jhumpa Lahiri’s “Sexy.” What is sexual attraction anyway? Except for some rare cases, I have usually been sexually attracted to people who were not physically attractive. There must be something that automatically sets off the hormones in a human being before the brain has time to analyze emotions.
While this Jakarta Post article expresses concern about possible flaccid tourism, I would be more concerned about this on a personal basis. How would they determine which acts incite sexual desire? I get excited seeing a man wrapped up in thought, reading a book whilst drinking coffee, or blowing out smoke from pursed lips. I guess it wouldn’t be too bad to incriminate the latter.
