I disappointingly discovered that unlike apple or blueberry picking, pumpkin picking is not really picking in the sense of severing the vegetable from the stem. Rather, farmers had already severed the pumpkins and had placed them in a patch for people to choose. The concept of “picking” therefore, was not plucking, but rather choosing which pumpkin to take home. Nevertheless, the beautiful foliage spread across the valley beneath the sloping orchard/pumpkin patch proved to be a priceless scenery.
